HOW POPULAR IS/WAS YOUR NAME?

Blogdaughter Boudicca of Boudicca's Voice thinks she's got a hippy name.

Well, I checked it out, and it DID have a huge surge of popularity during the 60's & 70's when it was one of the top 40 girl's names.

As for me, my name was VERY popular in the 1800's but it's been losing ground ever since. Looks like it won't even make the top 1000 in this decade.

Anyway, if you want to see how hip & trendy your name is (or isn't), check this page. It's a cute little java applet that shows a name's popularity over the last 125 years.

Feel free to mention your stats in the comments, even if you don't want to mention your name.

1 Well Tommy (actually my name, not Thomas) had a spike up to number 74 in the 1940's, not very popular before and dropped off ro around 400 today. Thomas on the other hand was popular up through the same spike in the 40s (up to number 8 then) but has been dropping as well since then, but even by the 2000s it was still around number 37.

2 Mine was ranked #6 when I was born. Damn...I thought I might be unique ;-)

3 Well, "Richmond" seemed to have peaked out in the 1890's (ranked in the 800's) and dropped off completely as a name by the 1930's. Oh. And only for boys.

4 Mine wasn't even in the top 100 when I was born, and now it's in the top ten. I hate it. I loved having a unique name. And Bou does have a hippy name. But it suits her

5 Mine peaked in the 50's, which is appropriate.

6 Mine peaked in the 50's too.

7 My first name peaked in the '40s and my nickname didn't make the chart - unless you consider Dashawn.

8 Well, as you can image, RAVE is not even on the charts.... But- my birth name peaked in the 1890's, and is all but nonexistant today. Oh Joy. Talk about having a unique name? Huh! Mine is OLD FASHIONED....I think Harvery and I should hang out with our OLD names....

9 I have no idea why my fingers insist on typing HARVERY and not HARVEY. UGH!

10 Because I'm so very... :-)

11 Ick. My name was the 189th most common name when I was born. Now, it's the 15th most common name. I kinda liked being one of the only "Alex"s I knew. Stupid yuppie scum. Ruined yet another good thing.

12 Looks like I am the only one with my name. As it should be.

13 Being a shock to me, my name was popular from the 50's - 70's and hasn't been recordable since. I guess there were more than 1 set of parents who hated their child and poxed them by "mispelling" a common name.

14 My real name only appears on the grid between the 1930's and 1990's. Good Lord....it's #195 in the 60's. Which means that I, too, have a hippy name, doesn't it? This is horrible news to receive first thing in the morning.

15 I hit my peak at number 46 in the 60's and 48 in the 50's. I got 102 in the 70's. Today? no one names their kids after me!

16 I spent my whole childhood knowing of only one other person named Jenna - the great-aunt I was named for - and then the name suddenly got very popular in the 1980s. I blame Priscilla Presley.

17 My name didn't appear on the charts until the 1920's, and then suddenly shot up in popularity in the 50's, peaked at #29 in the 60's, was #53 when I was born, and has fallen to #300-something these days.

18 Mine peaked in the late 50's early 60's - but even so I only knew two other people with the same name - and only one spelled it the same way. So I don't think it was very popular...

19 You can't be 40428 serious?!?
