NEW BLOGSPOT FEATURE: POP-UP COMMENTS - UPDATED 5-24-05

This is new, and it's cool.

If you're on Blogspot, you can tweak your settings to get the comments to appear in a separate pop-up window.

MUCH better.

Beloved Wife over at Smiling Dynamite has them. Go check it out at, for example, this post where you can meet the Bad Example Bed, complete with Bad Example Cats & Dogs.

Best part is, if you choose the "other" option, you don't need a Blogger account to leave a comment anymore. Just type in your name and URL.

I swear, Blogger gets to be more and more like real blogging software every day. If they get autodiscover trackbacks, I may move back ;-)

UPDATE 5-24-05: [If you've found this post useful enough to blog about, send a trackback or e-mail the permalink to me at harvolson-at-gmail.com and I'll add you to my Bad Example Groupies blogroll. See this post for details]

2 I had noticed pop-up Blogger comments on some Blogspot blogs lately... and the "other" option, which came too late for me. I ended up signing up with Blogger just so I could comment on some of my favorite Blogspot sites who didn't allow anonymous comments and/or to avoid having to retype "Songstress7 / News from the Great Beyond / http://songstress7.typepad.com" every time I turned around. Very cool.

3 Heh - I never clicked on the "other" button. Now they just need to make it so it remembers your info!

4 Oh... I don't see how your 'pony' dog gets into the bed... do you have a ladder for him?

5 What "other" button? I went in my settings and it has a question like this: Show comments in a popup window? With a yes and no to click on. Clicked on yes, republished, but it still didnt seem to take. HELP!!!!!!!!!!

6 Bah, Haloscan is still superior, IMO. Now if I can just get Harvey's comments (this very window) to remember MY data so I don't have to type it every darn time...

7 Teresa - yeah, that not-remembering thing is a pain. Hopefully that's the next step. Bug - Jake STEPS onto the bed. He's a BIG f'n dog :-) Denise - try doing it again, and then put up a new post. If that doesn't do it, I'd say e-mail blogger tech support. Wait... Just checked your site... you have pop-up comments now, but you have to go to the post-page to access them. I'm not sure exactly how to make the pop-up window accessible from the front page. I think it has something to do with having this bit of code: [a href="[$BlogItemCommentCreate$]"[$BlogItemCommentFormOnclick$] (I replaced less/greater-than signs with [ so the text would show here in the comments) in the bottom of your post code in your main template.
