I WOULD'VE BLOGGED MORE TONIGHT...

But I spent an hour blowing shit up instead of just the "quick 5 minutes" I promised myself.

This "Atomic Cannon" game is a habit-forming little time-waster.

And also available for your PDA.

Mmmm... expolsions...

1 Nice. This reminds me of an old game called "Scorched Earth" that I used to play. I think it was a Win-dows 95 type game. The graphics weren't as good as this one. But you had to buy your weapons between rounds; and some of them were absolutely devastating! My favorite was the Death's Head weapon. A MIRV with 8 or 9 large nuclear warheads. It would destroy up to 90% of the battlefield. I guess it was a MAD scenerio when you fired it... (stupid anti-spam program won't let me post "win-dows")

2 Let's go back even further to DOS 5.0, when they introduced Quick Basic as part of DOS. It contained a game called Gorilla.bas where some big monkeys threw exploding bananas at each other around and ove buildings. Why yes, I am old. Why do you ask?

3 I remember the Gorilla game! You could dig a tunnel of explosions right through the buildings to get to your opponent. Wasn't there a DOS program called Artillery, too? Man, those were the days... two color monitors (green and black. Ok techincally monocrome, but not black and white.) those little box joysticks that were impossible to use, no mouse and 5" floppy disks. Oh, and cassette tape drives. Remember those?

5 I love games like this. Scorched Earth was classic and Worms was right up there... very popular in University when we were supposed to be studying. I was going to write tonight Harvey! Damn you for the procrastination tool!

6 I don't remember the Gorilla game but I used to spend quality time with Blogless Brother Tom playing the old DOS game "Tank Wars". Later we upgraded to Scorched Earth ("I'll protect you with my shield"), then Worms ("a real man would use a banana in this situation"), and Atomic Cannon may or may not become our choice for recreational destruction. Right now I'm just getting a feel for the weapons & strategies against the computer. I haven't bought the full game yet, but it's a distinct possibility. [That first quote, for those who are familiar with Scorch, came about when I was in trouble from computer-player fire, and BB Tom - who still had a shield - tried driving up to my position so that his shield would cover me, too. Turns out that it killed me, instead] [For those not in the know, that second quote deals with the fact that the Exploding Banana is one of the most destructive weapons available, and the initial explosion sends half a dozen secondary - yet equally destructive - bananas up into the air in quite unpredictable arcs. You're nearly as likely to kill yourself as your enemy by using one]
