IF YOU LIKE THEM, YOU'LL LIKE THESE GUYS

I have my musical preferences. Certain bands and albums I like. I wish I could find more groups that sound like them. Trouble is, I don't have a lot time to go to the library to check out CD's at random. I also don't have the cash to "take a chance" on an unknown artist. File-swapping services? Forget it. I've got enough spyware & viruses on my computer already.

Thanks to Matty O'Blackfive, though, I've found a way to significantly narrow the search. It's sort of a musical version of Google. You enter in an artists name and it brings up other artists who are similar. I gave it a dry run with a couple of my favorites, and I have to agree that the "similars" it picks out ARE actually similar.

1 Put in Tom Petty and it gave me the Traveling Wilburys and Roy Orbison as very close so I give it a thumbs up! This visual search engine would rock if put into use on the Blogosphere!

3 Anyone know if there is anything similar for films? It would be good if you could type in a director/genre or film name and it matched it on similar lines.

5 About time you noticed that site... I thought everyone already knew about it or I would have blogged it....

6 I can just picture the blogosphere version - Type in "Bad Example" and you'd see a tiny circle way off in the corner that everyone has shunned as a pariah for being a degenerate pervert. And if you look closely, you can see a tiny image of me watching pornos :-P MW - that's what I thought when I saw it at Matty's place. But then I realized that I actually have a few (very few) readers that he doesn't, so I posted on it for their sake. You might want to do it for the same reason.

7 I don't have any readers... just search engine hits for "hippo dog singing elephant"

8 MW - If I were literate, I'D be a reader. As it is, I only go to see if you've posted any dirty pictures. I keep being disappointed.
