BAD EXAMPLE & FRIZZEN SPARKS FAMILY BLOGCRAWL 2005 (UPDATED 7-29-05)

Blogson Contagion of Miasmatic Review announces that from 7pm Saturday, July 30th to 7am Sunday, July 31st, you should get drunk and comment on any (or every) blog on the Bad Example and/or Frizzen Family blogrolls. Here are the rules:

A) You have to be 21 years old to participate. I donÂ’t want some minorÂ’s parents coming back and saying I told them to get pissed drunk and go on the internet. If you are under 21, you may still participate, as a designated blogger.
2) Drink as much as you comfortably feel you should. This is for fun, I donÂ’t want to have blog fodder stories involving charcoal slurries and ER visits. Be responsible, especially if you have to drive. IÂ’m saying right now that if you do something stupid and hurt yourself I will make fun of you. I am neither legally, morally nor ethically responsible for anything you do either in the real world or on the internet. You are all adults and responsible for your own actions.
D) Please attempt to limit the Blog Crawl comments to the time frame listed. Just so, itÂ’s easier to track. Not that IÂ’m going to link to every single post that has a comment on it, I just donÂ’t want to search for them Sunday to see what everyone said. Oh, and a drunken post on your own blog is perfectly acceptable and I will link to those.
4) Try to leave a comment on every blog in the Bad Example and Frizzen Sparks family. You may use my side bar as a reference if you donÂ’t know who they are. Do not feel limited to these blogs only, go ahead and hit any other blog you would like as well. Oh, and a drunken post on your own blog is perfectly acceptable and I will link to those.

Anyway, dingus forgot two things.

First, an event like this needs a logo. Pam of Pamibe (see her if you ever need a logo) whipped one up for me. Here's the 150px wide version below. If you click it, you get the 386px wide version, which you can shrink to fit if you need a different size.

Second, Graumagus of Frizzen Sparks never made a Frizzen Family Blogroll for his kids because he's a crappy blogdad. However, since we've had blogkids together (don't ask, and try not to picture it), I figured I could throw something together at Blogrolling.com:

Which you can put in your sidebar and you'll get a pretty, alphabetized list like what I got on my right sidebar.

And someone needs to tell me if Refractional Darkness is actually Frizzen (like Contagion says), or just a Friend of Frizzen, since Grau doesn't list him in the family.

3 Actually... I don't consider him so. He's one of my best friends, but in my opinion a "Blog Father" is someone who either: A) Inspired someone to start a blog or B) Badgered them until they started a blog (Neither of which S. did). That's why S. has an honored spot in my "Brothers (and Sisters) in all but blood" category (all personal friends from way before I had a blog who I wouldn't hesitate to donate a kidney to if they needed one) but not listed as "Blogfather" If anyone inspired me to start a blog it was probably Emperor Misha, Kim du Toit, and Rachel Lucas (who used to rock so much that she's still getting more hits per day than I am even though her blog sucks now and she hasn't posted in months). Reading these guys rant is what really drove me to start my own seedy corner of cyberspace.

STILL BREATHING

I heard from Blogson Jeff of Ponytailed Conservative. Seems he's had some health problems & has been in & out of the hospital for pancreatitis for the last 2 months.

During which time his domain came up for renewal & he didn't have internet access, leading to his site not being hosted.

However, he's better now, and should regain online presence within a few days.

1 Jeff - I hope you get better soon. Truly. The other day I had to take my son into the hospital for the whole day; they said he might have pancreatitis - what are the symptoms for such an infection so I can talk him into seeing his regular doctor? Thanks Cindy

3 Cindy: Thanks for the concern. First, pancreatitis isn't always the result of an infection, although it can be (mine hasn't been). It is any inflammation/shutdown of the pancreas. Can be the result of infections (both viral or bacterial), the result of cancer (VERY rarely), but most times it is simply an unexplained, non-specific inflammation and shutdown. The primary symptom is a complete and total lack of appetite, and frequent (like, twice an hour) vomiting, even though food hasn't been ingested recently (just bile and stomach acids). Needless to say, if this isn't treated quickly, all sorts of malnourishment problems, dehydration, and electrolyte imbalance problems soon result. There is often tenderness in the abdomen immediately below the right rib cage (where the pancreas lies). It can be caused by heavy ingestion of alcohol (the most likely cause in my case), but, again, it can just seem to happen for no reason. It is essentially a complete shutdown of the digestive system. With me, I can even not have eaten in days, can't hold down even a glass of water, see a Burger King commercial on TV and race to the bathroom to heave bile. Obviously, since this cycle of vomiting is round the clock, sleep deprivation soon follows, as one cannot barely even get to sleep before the nausea raises its ugly head once more. Treatment is hospitalization, generally. IV bags of fluids, nutrients, electrolytes, and anti-nausea drugs are induced for several days (often in ICU). Food is strictly withheld. The body's digestive system is basically told, "Here - why don't you take a three or four day vacation?" At which point, hopefully the inflamed pancreas recovers itself, appetite returns to normal, and all is well again. When you are begging for real food, the doc finally does some blood work, and assents to something simple like a grilled cheese sandwich. When that happens, and you haven't eaten in weeks, that sandwich tastes like filet mignon! HTH, Cindy, and best of wishes for your son. I hope it isn't pancreatitis - it is a truly miserable thing to go through!

6 I hope Harvey won't mind me using this thread to send a general message to my blogfamily and friends about this whole unexplained disappearance thing. I'd blog about it myself, but it will likely be several days before I get my blog back up again and running, for reasons Harvey has already explained. When I do, I'll give a more detailed explanation. For now, suffice it to say, along with the illness problems Harvey described, I was also contending with a psychotic (I mean actually diagnosed as such) roommate, trying to move away from him and find a home... it reads like an Alfred Hitchcock psychodrama, complete with scary people with dangerous knives and such. I really did know there were a lot of people out there who have come to know me and genuinely care about me. I knew they would be worried for me, and it bothered me quite a bit that I wasn't able to communicate my situation and alleviate that worry. Trust me, folks, if I could have reached you, I would have! The personal life situation (housing, internet connection) is still stabilizing, but I'm out of the psycho situation at least. I estimate my health right now at 90% and steadily improving. I have assurances from my doctors that this was just a really bad period, and I should not expect any more relapses. I thank each and every one of you for caring. You all are some of the most wonderful, funny, intelligent, compassionate people I've ever had the pleasure to meet on the internet. See ya soon!
