A while back I started the Little Right Wing Circle Jerk, which is founded on two principles:

1) Information found on blogs is at least as accurate as information found in the mainstream media

2) It's morally wrong to hijack someone else's blog.

The second one is fairly easy to agree with, but the first one requires a little nerve to assert.

In my recent surfing, however, I've come across a post in praise of the excellent job the blogosphere does of getting its facts straight. In honor of which, I present:

THE TENTH OCCASIONAL JERKY AWARDS

The Little Right Wing Circle Jerk Award of Merit (or "Jerky") is given to those who defend the honor of blogger credibility vs. the so-called "journalistic integrity" of the mainstream media. I hereby award a Jerky to:

Mamamontezz of Mamamontezz's Mental Rumpus Room for her post "Semper Fi/A Study in How An Event Is Covered"

In her post, she compares the original DOD/AFIS press release covering recent events in Iraq to the hacked, butchered, and generally lacking-in-facts coverage given to the story by the "journalists" in the MSM. It's not pretty.

Here's a quote from the ending summary:

...isn't it sad that it takes some old chick on dial-up on a busted office chair with nothing but a pig lamp for light to do this, while the journo-types get paid good money to turn out half-assed articles. And don't talk deadlines. I did this in an hour.

So, as long as she promises not to hijack any blogs, Mamamontezz is cordially invited to display either the Jerky Award image or the Little Right Wing Circle Jerk logo, or both.
